On Sunday, Kevin & I packed up the tracks, panels, & base plates & headed over to Read's shop at about 11 in the morning to weld up the pieces. Our house doesnt have enough power to run my big machine, so Read offered to let us use his shop & bigger welder.... OMG: we didnt get done until 9:30 that night!! We did get it done, but had a few mis-haps: The shop was barely big enough to pull the crane in & extend to boom out straight to the side; we cleared the ceiling by inches: the railroad tracks fit on the work table, but just barely; they were hanging of the ends... We dropped the copper panel on the corner of the table & ripped a hole in it---still have to come up with a cool repair...
But, after all that, we did get everything done; I did all the welding, Kevin ran the crane & did the setting up.
Yesterday, after a quick trip to TVW to get some more chains for rigging, we crane the pieces onto our driveway to finish up a few small welding detials, clean up, & install lenses...the had an audience of neighbor kids for quite awhile when the crane was going....
And, just as I was getting going good with the welding, it started to rain....
But, the pieces look awesome....(besides the damage in the copper) We had to just stand back & look at them for awhile during the rain--- I cant wait to see them in place & all done!!
Today, hopefully between rain, we can finish up all the last minute detials, including something cool for the repair, & get them loaded on the truck again. We are planning the install for Wed morning at the park, with quite a few people there: those that have been involved with the project from the beginning.
Will share more later; to early to think right now....
