New Wall Art

Siver City

Yesterday me, my little bro, & Kevin headed up the hill to Siver City: a friend gave us this old huge air compressor, so we decided to take the boom truck & go see if we could get it loaded & back down the hill. Holy cows, the thing was way heavier than we though; tried to just lift the whole thing with the crane--almost tipped over the truck!! So, it turned into an all day affair; things had to be torched, parts taken apart, etc etc. But, in the end, we managed: the thing is still on the truck at Mom's house (her back lot has been turned into our personal storage space...) We'll see what becomes of it--dont know if all the hassle was worth it, but it was a good day anyway...

Install Done!

We installed the pieces on Wed. morning; everything went really well; no issues; the bolts slid right into place, the crane was perfect, & the pieces look great! I'm really happy with the way it turned out; lots of work, but well worth the effort!!

Thanks so much: Dana, Frank, Toby, Tony, little bro Tony, Mom, Steve, & everyone else who helped us out along the way! And of course, a big thankyou to Read (http://www.idahocustomironworks.com/) we couldnt have done it without you!!! And thanks Karen for all your support along the way.

Check out the pics below for a look at the process....

Finishing up.....

On Sunday, Kevin & I packed up the tracks, panels, & base plates & headed over to Read's shop at about 11 in the morning to weld up the pieces. Our house doesnt have enough power to run my big machine, so Read offered to let us use his shop & bigger welder.... OMG: we didnt get done until 9:30 that night!! We did get it done, but had a few mis-haps: The shop was barely big enough to pull the crane in & extend to boom out straight to the side; we cleared the ceiling by inches: the railroad tracks fit on the work table, but just barely; they were hanging of the ends... We dropped the copper panel on the corner of the table & ripped a hole in it---still have to come up with a cool repair...

But, after all that, we did get everything done; I did all the welding, Kevin ran the crane & did the setting up.

Yesterday, after a quick trip to TVW to get some more chains for rigging, we crane the pieces onto our driveway to finish up a few small welding detials, clean up, & install lenses...the had an audience of neighbor kids for quite awhile when the crane was going....

And, just as I was getting going good with the welding, it started to rain....

But, the pieces look awesome....(besides the damage in the copper) We had to just stand back & look at them for awhile during the rain--- I cant wait to see them in place & all done!!

Today, hopefully between rain, we can finish up all the last minute detials, including something cool for the repair, & get them loaded on the truck again. We are planning the install for Wed morning at the park, with quite a few people there: those that have been involved with the project from the beginning.
Will share more later; to early to think right now....

First Thursday Report

Well, last night was very intresting...definately a different crowd for the fashion show; much more entertaining to people watch, I must say :) I did have a few people I know stop by, and my whole family showed up for awhile, so that was fun. No big sales, but I wasnt expecting any; still, a whole lotta people are seeing my work, so I cant complain...

Let's see, today was the day I was planning on staining concrete, (park sculpture project) but my little bro is here; so I may be too distracted to get much done.... & it's looking a bit rainy out there too. So, it may have to wait until after we are done with the install. Which, is planned for next Tuesday--cant wait to get it done!! Will post lots of pics & updates on the process....

For now, here's some pics of a little jaunt we took up to Silver City last weekend---fun trip up into the woods :) It was so much fun to go do something different; I love getting out of the city & up into the fresh air. There were so many different wild flowers in bloom, & the smell of the pine trees was intoxicating... We made the trip up to the old mine site to see a piece of equipment we might be aquiring...& I cant wait to go up again....
