Back to work--an inspiring day....

Yesterday was a good day; I layed out some ideas for a couple new pieces; big ones---one 13 feet tall, one 16 feet. I spent the morning dragging stuff out into the front driveway & drawing on the concrete with chalk; I sure the neighbors think I'm getting crazier all the time!!!

This one will stand about 12 feet tall (I think) My original idea was some sort of mechanism thing in the middle with the big wheel on top, but after thinking about it all day, I think I'm going to do a huge wind-chime instead.....

And this one will be the kinetic piece. It all started with a solar tube that a friend gave me.... I'm wanting the whole piece to spin in the wind; I drew sails along the supports, but I think it may work better to make more of a vertical turbine; with 3 supports, & 3 long curving blades.... this one is definitely going to be a challenge, but I'm really excited about the possibilities! I'm going to have to find a spin mechanism for the thing to be built; maybe a wheel on an axle or something.....must do more thinking & engineering.....

After all the drawing & moving stuff, I decided to make something for my house; most of the time, I'm always making things for galleries or other people; its rare that I do any projects just for me. So, I had these hanging copper disks & keys that were part of piece that I didn't like & took apart, & I decided to make a small wind chime for the back of the house. Since we moved in, I've always thought that the space back there need something artsy.... So, here it is....

It makes the cutest little jingly sound in the breeze; I think I may need to make some more of these.....

a little break...

The season is changing; I can feel it in the air... How I have enjoyed a break from the heat this last week! Since the opening, I've kinda been taking things easy, cleaning up, getting organized, & preparing to go back to work. I've caught up on my gardening; even planted new seeds for a late fall harvest & bought some sale plants to change out my containers by the front door--I'll get to those today. Although, I'm anxious to get back to creating & working on some new pieces, I've enjoyed my free time....

Opening at the Green Antelope

Opening night was a great success!! There was a great turnout & everyone seemed to have a good time wandering about the gallery & sculpture garden enjoying wine, nibbles, & the fine art.... I met lots of really nice people, & answered lots of questions; especially about the large sculptures, & even sold a wall piece! The jewelry was also a big hit; sold about 1/2 of what I had on display!

I'm optimistic about the market in that area; there seemed to be a lot of people who were very interested in the purchase of larger sculpture... The outdoor display area is fantastic; large trees, lovely landscaping, & benches for people to sit & enjoy the art. I also found out that the outdoor area is being expanded; so there will be room for more sculpture this fall---I'm thinking of bringing up some new pieces (yet to be created).

So, we'll see what happens now; there were a few folks who wanted to go home & measure their space, who may come back to make a purchase--hope so!!

I've been working on benches for the new Galleri Bell Ame; soon to open in Eagle. We used salvaged concrete & steel; I had one concrete top for weeks now, & have been waiting for another to come through the yard...we finally found one on Monday: delivered stuff to the Green Antelope on Tuesday, moved 3 tons of steel on Wed, made & installed the benches on Thursday, & then had the opening on Friday! What a week!

The benches turned out really cute; we took the old boom truck down & installed them Thursday evening....

Craning into the perfect spot...

Me & Melissa enjoying the new bench!
The gallery is located on Eagle road; just as you are entering Eagle; look for the big Eagle sign, & it's right there! Opening next week, Galerie Belle Ame will feature local & regional artists, a frame shop, sculpture, glass, paintings, & more!

Install at Green Antelope

We delivered stuff to the Green Antelope on Tuesday, in preparation for the opening on Friday. Everything looks great! The yard with the big trees really make the sculptures look nice; I cant wait to see things at night, in the winter etc....
